Conference Network open

20070531 00:00

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting The Next Web!

Today we opened up the conference network.
We believe that the Networking aspect of a conference is very important. If you are on the conference you want to know who else is attending and maybe even already made some appointments with other attendees. We wanted to launch it a little bit earlier and then we met with the truths that one day only contains 24 hours…

After some minor technical issues (hope you didn’t receive to much emails….) we’re up and running. It is powered by our dear friends of Swoot. Not all attendees are in the system as I miss some of the mail addresses in our database. If you’re not in and are attending the conference, please send me an email. (patrick at …..)

The Next Web bigger than Web2.0 conference…

20070530 23:51

afbeelding-7.pngI was just checking Alexa and was comparing thenextweb.org to web2con.com and I noticed an interesting trend :)

According to Alexa we passed Web2.0 Conference in traffic somewhere halfway April. The closer we come to the conference the more visitors we have (and I have to say that they had their conference in October). It doesn’t say much, but it is pretty cool!

Help determining strategy of UPC

20070529 16:18

afbeelding-5.pngUPC will host a workshop for a small group of their best and most innovative employees during The Next Web Conference in a special room. They would love to speak and discuss with attendees, web savvies and influentials who like to share their opinion on the following topics:

1 - What should the web strategy be for a traditional network company (cable, telco - such as UPC)? Specifically:

  • we plan to test/trial online video to TV today - is this threat/opportunity?
  • should we white label/outsource to speed up development of services?

2 - Online Marketing (and Support) - riding the hype

  • self care online - avoid help desk calls
  • online sales and marketing - acquire, up/cross sell UPC products

3 - Building online value for our offline customers (data/voice and tv) - web tools and features

  • aim is to creates value (via tools/feature connected to the core voice/data/video products) to help acquisition + give reasons to stay/fight churn
  • what tools/features?
  • white label/or create

4 - Create new portal businesses via balanced investment strategy

  • M&A, VC, combinators

If you have specific knowledge and want to meet and talk about these topics with them, please contact me at patrick@thenextweb.org

Interview with Kevin Kelly

20070518 17:27

Last week in San Francisco we were invited at Kevin Kelly’s place and had a very interesting conversation with him. I made some video footage of it. (the quality is not that good, but it is worthwhile watching).

Kevin Kelly was Keynote speaker at The Next Web 2006. He is Editor at Large (formerly Editor in Chief) at Wired Magazine and famous for his books: “Out of Control” and “New Rules for the New Economy”. Foremost, he’s a great and inspiring person with an extraordinary vision on technology.

The Next Web Dinner

20070517 22:16

Gold Room Odeon(1).jpg As you might know there will also be an huge Next Web party the evening of the Next Web Conference starting at 8pm. It will be held in the Odeon which is a trendy club just a two minute walk from the Next Web Conference venue.

We offer a special Next Web Dinner Menu at the Odeon (starting at 6:15pm) and it would be nice if you could join us there. It is only €65 for a three course dinner including drinks. Most of the speakers will be there and it will be a great networking event.

If you want to sign up for that dinner please register here (only 130 places available!)
